Yesterday's "Venus Envy" show on Fashionista was a total blast! Truly unique in every aspect, the theme of the event was courtesy of Sandro Botticelli's classic painting "The Birth of Venus".
Sponsors were Glance Skins, Calla Hair, Gwen Carillon Designs and Fashion Nomads.
In order to allow the audience a close inspection of Joakim Asbrink's incredibly detailed and realistic skins, models were nearly naked. A carefully positioned small leaf covered one delicate part of their anatomy.

Using Botticelli's image as a backdrop, models emerged and were escorted down the runway and struck the legendary Venus pose on a slowly revolving shell. Mimmi Boa, Lorelei Maggs, Wenadrenia Soderstrom and Sami Kutanga confidently modeled sponsors products to an enthralled and enthusiastic audience. Tiara Calvert and I escorted our stars onstage. Fashionista CEO Yasmine Kidd took on the role of hostess, while DJ Miguelina provided the music.

The incredible set design was created by Gwen Carillon of Elements in Design, who also created and provided the jewelry worn by the cast. Highly detailed sea shells were utilized for our host, DJ, models and the finale introduction of the creative designers. Gwen also developed a gently running shimmering waterway for the models to strut their stuff and made the Botticelli reproduction backdrop.

Technical magic for the animated props and special effects were the work of Krise Shepherd of ktool designs. Rayn Coeyman was on hand and provided some much appreciated behind-the-scene assistance. Images of the event were captured by SuperElite's PR Director, Rhi Rossini. A highlight of the event was the first ever public showing of fabulous footwear from Fashion Nomads, a new company featuring designs by Aleida Rhode.

Beauties and the Beast

The Museum of SL Photography presented its second exhibition opening on Friday, November 28th. "Beauties and the Beast" featured SL Artists Don Ahmad Hosho, Cala Rossini and Laurah Oh.

Don Ahmad Hosho is a fictional Second Life character created by a real life graphics designer & illustrator. Ahmad (as he's known in SL) has won first prize in a windlight contest judged by Torley Linden. In addition, he's won the Louis Landon cover contest and may have the first SL art to grace the cover of an RL CD from an RL musician!! Currently, Ahmad is in negotiations with two New York art galleries about exhibitions of his Second Life art.

Cala Rossini describes her art: "The philosophy that underlies my photographsis pretty simple..., and that is to try to stir the soul in whatever way possible, whether it be calm, pathos, love or humour. To try to get the viewer to catch a glimpse of what I am feeling as I am taking the shot. With scenic art I enjoy using windlight to create the mood and a little photoshop to finish off the scene. With avatar art I like to experiment with both windlight and photoshop to try to reach the vision I have in my mind. But for both the basis is the same...if I don't feel it...i can't do it! My photography takes me all over SL and that is something I love. I am learning all the time and constantly being inspired by the amazing artists I see. All in all, I am getting great pleasure out of what I do and the people I am meeting through doing it. I feel like a lucky girl ;-) See a gallery of Cala's work here.

Laurah Oh prefers to have her work speak for itself. Check out some of her amazing work here. You'll see how Laurah is able to capture light and shadow, energy, power and solitude in her works that can invoke many moods.
Exhibition Opening Music was provided by Cyllindrian Rutabaga, one of SL's finest vocalists.
